Observation 103758: Poria sensu lato

No herbarium specimen

Notes: This organism was fruiting up through grass that was growing on the site where a sweet gum tree was taken down three years ago. it appeared to be coming up from one of the old roots. Sort of a foamy appearance, but stringy when i cut through it. Pleasant odor, very mild.

Recognized by sight: Ceratiomyxa, as Noah puts it, withers if you look at it the wrong way. This stuff is way more persistent, particularly if you can handle it sufficient to discern a texture other than “vanishing.”

I saw it it several locations, at least 4 times. I have not seen it since.
