Observation 104037: Flammulaster Earle

On decorticated hardwood log. Spores smooth with no germ pore, lamellae not crenulate, cap diameter 2.5 cm.

linked within the previous comment, I’m wondering even more about these two species names. I have gone back and forth on my own similar observations.

I find them difficult to distinguish as well, but this mushroom is different from the mushroom that I have previously called F. erinaceella (but that mushroom may indeed be P. granulosa): http://mushroomobserver.org/96828?q=V3eP
