The one with the white-looking stem was probably due to too much light falling upon the subject. This seems to be a reoccuring theme… yellow getting washed out of photos. For instance, I have yet to find a lighting technique that shows the true yellow color of the context in the cap of a fresh Boletus bicolor.

This specimen has been dried and will be mailed this fall, along with the MO reference number. I have dried all the Amanitas collected on 8/7/12 and recently posted to MO.

The stem in the third picture appears white…
