Observation 10450: Hygrocybe (Fr.) P. Kumm.

When: 2008-07-10

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Small red mycenae or possibly hygrophori with orangish gills. Field guide suggests M. strobilinoides. Cantharellus cinnabarinus would be more vase shaped I think, and probably much larger.

These little red guys sprout all over these particular woods in damp, low-lying, mossy areas after every summer rain.
