HABITAT open oak-conifer forest at base of very steep rocky north slope; SUBSTRATE granitic boulder in talus; ASPECT mostly open; NOTES crust rimose-areolate gray to slightly tan near margin to strongly convex areolate pale gray in center, K-, apothecia round 1 per areole black raised with raised lecanorine concolorous rim, epihymenium green-brown turning brown in K, paraphyses 4-6 cells swollen, spores 6-8 per ascus 25 × 15 µm, conidia 15-22 µm.
