HABITAT open oak-conifer forest at base of very steep rocky north slope; SUBSTRATE base of Pseudotsuga macrocarpa; ASPECT mostly open; NOTES thick dark brownish-gray undulate crust, thick whitish medulla, all K- C- KC- P- UV- 350-375nm, lecanorine to almost aspicilioid apothecia, disk black epruinose, rim thick thalline, epihymenium emerald green turning olive to red-brown in K, hypothecium hyaline, medulla POL+ fine not clearing in K, paraphysesvery moniliform with > 6 swollen cells; SPORES 8 per ascus, broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, smooth, simple, 16-18 × 12-13 µm.
