Observation 105193: Boletus pallidus Frost

When: 2012-08-12

Collection location: Hickory Run State Park, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

I am stumped by this generic-looking collection of boletes. No staining/bruising aside from a bit of darkening on the scratched pores.

KOH: cap orange; cap context negative; pores slightly pale orange; stipe and stipe context negative.

Fruit bodies to immature to get a spore drop.

I think it varies with the age of the mushroom. Growing nearby this collection, there were mature B. pallidus which showed the grayish blue bruising on the pores.

I’ve seen these bruise
