Observation 105675: Cladonia polycarpoides Nyl.
When: 2009-11-19
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: HABITAT open dry oak-hickory forest on south-facing slopes and ridge; SUBSTRATE lawn; ASPECT open; NOTES in lawn, above 1850s cabin parking area; THALLUS squamules K+ deep yellow, C-, KC-, podetia K+ yellow turning red; MEDULLA K+ deep brownish-yellow, C-, KC-.

It is difficult to get a K+r reaction out of this, but I can around the apothecia (which are unquestionably connected to the squamules that only give K+y reactions). And the reaction from yesterday is still yellow, too, so it’s not just a matter of time. I haven’t done the PPD test to separate C. polycarpoides from C. polycarpia. (Besides all of the above are now called C. subcariosa…)
