mixed woods in sandy soil near Clear Creek -lots of hemlock nearby, but also various hardwoods
taste mild
pores bruise light brown
conspicuous reticulation on upper portions of stalk, becoming more prominent near the apex
macrochemical tests (KOH, NH4OH and FeSO4) consistent with Bolete book for T. variobrunneus
spores 8 -12 × 3 -4 um

worked this specimen up with a very similar specimen found the same day in a nearby location -the other specimen turned out to be T. ferrugineus; macrochemical tests for two specimens were drastically different
