Collection location: Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, Chelan Co., Washington, USA [Click for map]
Growing in mid-elevation conifer forest of primarily Picea engelmannii and Abies lasiocarpa (plus or minus some Tsuga mertensiana at higher elevations, and Pseudotsuga menziesii and Pinus monticola at lower elevations).
Unfortunately for us, the North Cascades Complex (of which Lake Chelan NRA is a part) does not allow mushroom collecting on any of its 684,000 acres. We played by the rules and left these in the woods.
