I think you are right — good eyes! The hymenophore of these young and fresh mushrooms has the wrong color (greenish-gray) to be B. castanella; it’s also too decurrent to be Bothia. I did see a lot of mature Phylloporus boletinoides on that day in the Pine Barrens, and though those were unambiguous in their appearance, I failed to appreciate the different look at an early stage of development. Besides I don’t really know if B. castanella grows in the acidic soil of pine-oak woods.
