Yes, only a small amount of one of the fresh, bug free, specimens. Thank you!

You chose the fresh ones for your experiment, right? The old ones in the photos don’t look good to eat regardless of the identity.., Right? Just wondering, glad you survived!

I did get sick.

I put them in the fridge because I wanted to save them to eat later. David Spahr said they were a fantastic edible; David must be collecting the real thing in Knox county or have a stomach of steel. I ate only a small amount to test first, it hit me a couple hours later. I’ll have to try eating the ‘Old Man’ at some point. Thanks for the info.

Eventually blue stains on the pore surface resolve into red-brown discoloration regardless of the temperature… Why would you want to keep fresh boletes in the fridge for several days? Did you actually get sick?

As of B. bicolor and “friends”, I no longer collect them for the table anymore — the risk of GI distress aside, I just don’t think that B. bicolor is that tasty, fried or dried. As a matter of fact, I would gladly trade it for T. alboater, Strobilomyces sp. and the Gilled Bolete.

Gastrointestinal distress..

Noticed the red staining after a few days in the fridge, despite a bluing reaction when fresh..

Glad I only ate a small amount!
