Notes:
Fruiting on the bank of a clay/sand road cut through mixed hardwood forest. The unopened balls were about 3 cm diameter. I cut open the one in image 2.

Recognized by sight: Very dark peridium and cracking indicates this is several month old. The gleba appears blackish to me. But I can see no spore case or apical pore for the spore case. Perhaps already eroded?
