Observation 106559: Caloplaca aurantia (Pers.) Hellbom

When: 2012-08-14

Collection location: Planalto das Cezaredas, Portugal [Click for map]

Who: zaca

No specimen available

This observation refers to the lichen with yellow/orange thallus which I think to be Caloplaca aurantia due to the flat lobes and colour. The place corresponding to the center of the thallus is occupied by another lichen, maybe a Clauzedea, that already lost his apothecia, leaving pits. Which one invades the other?

I would guess the Clauzadea established after the Caloplaca started to die off in the center, then started to undercut it from the inside out.
