Cute little guys. There has been a few of these posted recently, but it seems some have dark fibers, and other like this one, have white fibers on the surface. I wonders if that is from different species, or is it age?

Still, they are cute…

The way the spines fuse at the tips is very distinctive. There are a couple of closely related species that also do it — L. marginatum for one. If the spines break off in large sheets it may actually be L. marginatum.
