No herbarium specimen

Notes: Seen at edge of sidewalk near wooded area. Nearest trees are hemlocks. Most other trees in the area are oak, maple, hickory. Width about 2 to 3 inches. About 3 inches tall. Color of cap is deep red, almost purple.

quite like that. Probably caused by environmental conditions.

A pic of the underside would be cool.

Hanging gills

Is there anything noteworthy about the gills that seems to be hanging from the cap? I’ve never seen that before, and I haven’t been able to find a similar picture on any website.
