Amanita augusta is correct ID based on ITS DNA match.

Specimen UBC F27973. Before Bojantchev & R.M. Davis described this beautiful species in 2013, specimens from western Canada were consistently identified as A. franchetii.

I agree with you that old growth spruce forests occurs elsewhere, but the “Old growth Picea sitchensis forest, north of the mouth of Muir Creek” occurs only north of the mouth of Muir Creek in Sooke. Adolf
