Observation 108168: Russula Pers.
When: 2012-09-02
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on a private residence lawn shaded by trees – a birch growing nearby. Stem with pithy insides, greenish tint to the cap – light buff at margin getting darker to the middle, yellowish spore print. White gills. Volva not present but could have been left under ground as the lawn and dirt were quite hard.

I’ve added a couple of photos “en situ.” I forgot to mention lack of a veil too! Indeed I have been known to lurk about the Shroomery. Thanks for the encouragement – I look forward to a great rainy season this year (fingers crossed).

thanks for sharing your pics, I recognize your name from Shroomery… one easy tip, everybody likes ‘en situ’ pics, so take a couple of shots of the mushroom in it’s natural state when you can before you pick it, that gives everybody visual info you might not think to automatically mention in your observation. I hope this is the first of many!
