Observation 108198: Boletus fraternus Peck

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Roody reports this to have a ‘Pale yellow to greenish yellow’ pore surface, yet most postings on MO (and Rogers Mushrooms) show a nearly white pore surface…,

Pores bruised dull blue-black instantly, stipe brown as in photos, Cap pale red brown with minute cracking on surface.

That is reassuring. My first thought when I found it was that it suggested but was not Boletus chrysenteron which I have found at that location in previous summers; B-R-B mentions the potential confusion with B. chrysenteron in their Comment p 86. For the moment, I am considering the photo in Roody to be atypical.
