Observation 109109: Amanita sect. Vaginatae sensu Zhu L. Yang

When: 2012-09-07

Collection location: Echo Summit, El Dorado Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Mike McCurdy (lesmcurdy)

Specimen available

This solitary specimen was found in a grassy area among lodgepole pines, in a mixed conifer forest, adjacent to a mountain meadow at approx. 7000 ft. in elevation. It is still dry, though 2 days prior there was a small amount of rain at that location, however there are reletively few mushrooms coming up. Other than A. muscaria, this is the first Amanita that I have seen in the Sierras this fall.
