Observation 109683: Lactarius helvus (Fr.) Fr.

When: 2012-09-14

Collection location: Seven Tubs Natural Area, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

As is common with this type, the latex was virtually non-observable. I find this type with cap surface colored cinnamon brownish (like these) or grayish. Third photo shows more yellow than it should.

I used to call this type “Lactarius aquifluus.” Has the name applied to the eastern NA been settled?
