Observation 110065: Amanita spreta (Peck) Sacc.
When: 2012-09-15
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I am only guessing, but this looks like photos I have seen of Amanita brunnescens. I have very little field experience with mushrooms. Just started this hobby a few months ago. This particular mushroom was found when it had just poked above the soil. Dug it out with my pocket knife, but it is possible I did not get the entire stalk. I know it is important to secure the whole thing. The first two photos were taken at Hawn State Park and the following ones were taken at my home. The total length was about 6".

Recognized by sight: The relatively short marginal striations on the cap, ring turning gray, rather small and fragmentary volval sac, the brownish cap with pigment seeming to be organized into fine roughly radial “hair-like” lines all point to Amanita spreta.
