Recognized by sight: There are several annulate Agrocybe with this morphology. Also, as this is a stump in a white pine stand, acericola, while still possible, becomes less likely.

As its name indicates it is usually on maples (Acer).

Decompose hardwood? This was found in a pine grove. Though, I see where you are coming from with the sturdy ring.
