Observation 110656: Caloboletus marshii D. Arora, C.F. Schwarz & J.L. Frank
When: 2012-09-17
No herbarium specimen

Notes: found same day as http://mushroomobserver.org/110153?q=eIus but in a yard in the neighborhood behind safeway. I stopped the car and picked it on sight, but couldn’t photograph until the 20th. It was a little parasitized but fresh and dense and firm when picked, now it is quite parasitized and soft. For more detailed notes, see the other observation.

This one was found growing out the middle of a 3ft soil slope at the edge of a recently dug-up garden, facing the road, under redwood and young live oaks. no real leaf litter on the ground, it was bare.

It blued upon contact when fresh, when I just cut it for a picture it did not blue.
