Notes: I have collected lots of Scleroderma. I don’t recall one that stains bright chrome-yellow near the base.

Recognized by sight: Scleroderma species with bright chrome-yellow staining at the sterile base. Near sycamore.

Used references: http://www.svims.ca/council/Sclero.htm While Scleroderma fuscum is the best fit available from this single source, it does not mention a sterile base turning bright chrome yellow when cut or torn apart. Looks like some microscopy will be necessary here.
