A couple of features helpful to Geastrum identification.

First, a close-up of the apical pore on the spore case (gleba). Details of how the pore has formed need to be shown. It may take more than one photo.

Second, the number of layers in the exoperidium (outer shell) is helpful and descriptive of some species. Show details of any breaks in this outer layer that forms a star-like shell.

Lastly, sometimes this species can grow from buried wood, or can be mycorrhizal. Knowing what specific trees and shrubs were located nearby can assist in determining the species.
