Observation 111091: Flammulina populicola Redhead & R.H. Petersen

When: 2012-08-20

Collection location: Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico, USA [Click for map]

Who: weed lady (Sylvia )

No specimen available

This mushroom was found at an altitude of at least 8,000 feet (probably more) an area not quite a high as the Santa Fe ski area (9,000 feet). I believe about the only trees found there are pine, spruce, fir, aspen and willows. The Mushroom Expert says that Flammunlina velutipes is found on hardwoods and Flammulina populicola would most likely be found on poplars (aspen is a poplar). So I am leaning toward Flammulina populicola if an exact ID can be made.
