Observation 112162: Chlorophyllum Massee

When: 2012-10-03

Collection location: Loudoun Co., Virginia, USA [Click for map]

Who: L.M.M (GlowShell)

No specimen available

This mushroom is fairly large, and the cap is wider than my hand. I’m afraid of touching it for fear of having an allergic reaction (I’m already allergic to a host of other things – I’d rather not test out an idea) or of it exploding, like one hilariously terrifying mushroom I encountered on a trip to Saudi Arabia.

As someone who has no idea what she is doing, I have decided to go ahead and post these pictures with the hopes that someone can identify this ’shroom for me and help kick-start my new hobby.

TL,DR; big cap, too afraid/no idea how to collect spore sample, wild, popped up after heavy rain and relatively cool weather

Again, it’s a big mushroom.

This was taken on September 29th, and has been designated “Mushroom One.”
Mushroom One, on October 3rd.
Grew at the same time as the other, but flopped over on to its side. Mushroom Two,
’Shroom One
Again, Mushroom One.
