Observation 112274: Hypocrea peltata (Jungh.) Sacc.
When: 2012-09-28
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This was growing on the top of a decaying log. This was in a bottomland wooded area. Looking at the beneath of this specimen, after removing it carefully with a knife, nothing was revealed (pores, gills, etc.) Not able to obtain any spore color from the cut surface. I have VERY limited experience. Any help appreciated.

Thanks to you who looked at my observation. I had shown this to someone (who has seen a lot of fungi) I know in this area and he had no idea. Interesting that there is only one other observation of this species at this site. Don’t know if that makes it unusual or just overlooked.
