No spore print, I’m sorry to say.

No spore print, but glancing revealed a brown tint. The webby veil was too fiberous to be a cortina? Also there is no root to speak of. The one thing that made me think Poison Pie was the brown dots on the gills where maybe moisture had left stains. Either way the brown must have come from the spores collecting in the moisture drops and drying. No partial veil on Poison Pie, well that eliminates that. Side note, I sometimes have trouble with smelling mushrooms especially when what I am supposed to be smelling is something root like, now almonds or anise that’s more distinctive. Radish sounds a little bit more sharp than potatoes or whatnot but still kinda earthy.

yes I did smell it.

I didn’t save it but I did smell it today and it didn’t smell of radishes or even disagreeable nor did it taste bitter.

H. crustuliniforme is its poster child, but there are many cryptic species hiding behind that name. In this case, it’s certainly not H. crustuliniforme, as that sp. lacks a veil. If it is in fact a Hebeloma, you could try your luck with a copy of “The Veiled Species of Hebeloma in the Western United States,” which, despite the name, probably covers some Eastern species as well. It could just as well not be Hebeloma, which was merely a guess.

Did you save the collection? Did you smell it?
