Under the circumstances, I would suggest that your mushroom could be Amanita strobiliformis.

I know how bottom of the stem of amanita looks like

but it was covered in leafs, deep in the hard ground, and I didnt even think of taking a look when I grabbed it.
So I dont know.

Yes you are right I cut off the bottom of the steam to see the gills
