Recognized by sight: Need to see more details… gills, stipe base. Spore print color is helpful. But these look to me (based upon time of year, growth habit, and appearance) like Hebeloma.

To Dave W.: Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don’t have any other pictures, and since I took these six years ago, I don’t remember any of the details you’d like to have. We were traveling and so I did not do a spore print….

Definitely a gilled mushroom. Unless it’s one of the weird ones like a “gilled” bolete, it is indeed in the Agaracales (not a member of Russulales), and probably but not certainly a member of the Cortinariaceae. If so, it’s probably a dead end unless someone from northern Michigan recognizes the appearance and the association.
