Observation 112726: Coltricia perennis (L.) Murrill

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Fungus found on side of roadway, growing from buried wood still with bark attached. Stipe is very short: about 1/4 inch.


An older specimen, with darker hymenium and surface of pileus tending towards black.
Black edge of hymenium (underside) of fungus. I thought this was just discoloration, but it may actually be another fungus colonizing the Polyporus.
Another photos of fungal hymenium, with my left thumbnail for size. My thumbnail is nearly exactly 1 inch across. I gives me a built-in size guage.
