Observation 112779: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

No herbarium specimen

Notes: These specimens were picked by someone else and brought to me for ID, with the question, “Can I eat these?” No.
These were firm and meaty, though beat up from travel from NC to PA. The flesh smelled like raw potatoes. All had bulbous bases, and were between 2-5 inches wide. Found in mixed woods. Spore print was golden brown.
