Observation 113231: Hydnellum P. Karst.
When: 2012-10-11
No herbarium specimen
0 Sequences

A few fruitbodies at differet stages of development scattered under pitch pines. The young ones have whitish caps with an orange margin (see pics), while mature basidiocarps are brown. The flesh is meaty, of medium hardness and succulent, with a dark brown liquid exuding when pressure is applied. The odor is “chemical” and slightly disagreeable. Looks like this could be a good candidate for dyeing.
