Recognized by sight: First bolete up in the fall, under coastal live-oak mixed with madrones. Smells like what I would describe to be dog breath with a splash of soy sauce and maybe a little freshly cut cucumber… Also, there is a very metallic tone to the scent that screams “Don’t eat me!”.
