“placodioid type” (sensu Lendemer 2013 monograph on N. Amer. Lepraria s. str.); K+ yellow turning slowly brown, C-, KC-, UV-, P+ orange (I’m interpreting this as stictic acid). Comes out as L. finkii, the most common species in the east.

The specimen must have been from the greenish thalli, not the bluish one.

Jason, this is #8162012-6

Maybe Lepraria normandinoides on the right?

I’m looking at the conspicuous raised margin that is supposed to be characteristic of it. Clearly has atranorin versus the usnic(?) species on the left. Lovely side-by-side comparison of the two pigments, by the way!

I was just reading today, both atranorin and usnic acid act as sunscreen (among possibly other things), but while usnic acid absorbs UV-B (very effectively), atranorin mostly scatters it instead. Kinda cool.

Anyway, if the green one really has usnic acid, then maybe it’s L. ecorticata, but that should be a diffuse species, and I see a definite margin here. If it is lacking both usnic acid and atranorin, then… yeah, got me.

Lecanora finkii + something else?

In the top photo you can see what looks like L.finkii (on the right) – can’t say for sure without specialists like Lendemer looking at it. But what’s on the left (and the rest of the photos)?
