Also, these specimens were robust and large (up to 15cm). No spots on cap.

In mixed hardwood forest. At that particular location: oak/beech/castanea.

Would call that REAL Armillaria mellea.

No bulbous stipe, yellow decorated ring, brightish and in some tints also yellowish cap, quite robust. What habitat, I mean, which tree and in what surroundings?
