Members in my mushroom club told me this is what it is, probably fruiting on Clitocybe robusta.
I collected the Clitocybe along a roadside in a moist wooded area. There were 4 or 5 of them, caps 3 inches across, smooth and white. One of the caps looked like it had been deformed by growing under heavy leaf cover. The mushrooms smelled wonderful to me, sweet and mushroomy. They tasted like button mushrooms you get buy in the grocery store. I accidentally left the mushrooms in my trunk sitting on some old newspapers. When I went to clean out my trunk four days later the deformed mushroom had the Volvariella sprouting from it.
