Observation 114130: Scleroderma polyrhizum (J.F. Gmel.) Pers.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Up to 2.3" wide. One pictured shows it may open like an earth star-like formation. Exoperidium not as thick as I’d expect, though. Some were partially buried. Insides of even those younger ones still looked as pictured. I guess I’d have to find them very young to be more white. Also, I’ve read they’re poisonous. Is this confirmed or a repeated rumor?
