Observation 114133: Entoloma Fr. ex P. Kumm.

When: 2012-10-21

Collection location: East Lyme, Connecticut, USA [Click for map]

Who: Sam.Schaperow (SamSchaperow)

No specimen available

Is this possibly Marasmius oreades? It is grey and shiny. In person I could call it a charcoal silver/gold/bronze color. Like a metal, practically. The background, btw, is a nearly gold color of a car.

Taste & spit less fungal than I’m used to w/M. oreades, and a tad sweet. Really nice! I hope I can more than taste & spit (AKA eat and not spit).

Trying to spore print. Nothing so far.

Proposed Names

92% (2)
Recognized by sight: Looks very much like an Entoloma (should have a salmon-pink-brown spore print), in subgenus Nolanea. Definitely not Marasmius oreades.

I seem to be learning a theme this year: If it looks like something I’m used to finding, but has what seems to me to be a slight difference, it probably isn’t what I thought I found.

Now, regarding the species here, I wonder what it is.

{ BTW, I’m focusing on a lot of mushrooms lately. Though, the ones I’m most focused on figuring out are: http://mushroomobserver.org/113925?q=mGXj }
