is bioluminescent, but weakly so (not visible to the naked eye). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycena_haematopus , or Bermudes D, Petersen RH, Nealson KH. (1992). “Low-level bioluminescence detected in Mycena haematopus basidiocarps”. Mycologia 84 (5): 799–802 @ http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/...

I don’t think Mycena haematopus is bioluminescent. It is quite common here. These pics were taken with 30 second exposure and iso 3200. Iso 6400 gave too much noise. Some of the pics were taken with 30 second exposure, and I waved a LED flashlight overhead so you can see the mushroom and the glowing in the same picture. They look pretty cool at night when your eyes are adjusted to the dark, they are clearly visible. I will go back this June and try longer exposure times with lower ISO.

And at what ISO

in the old days (film) reciprocity failure made it hard to record. Can you see this clearly with dark adjusted eyes at night?

How long was the exposure …

Maybe the BBC can film here next time.

Mycena maculata (mycelium is bioluminescent); not sure about Mycena haematopus

Great!

Love such fungi! I had the pleasure in Australia with Mycena chlorophos and Omphalotus nidiformis. Really fantastic!
