Don’t trust the new Tricholoma book to provide much news – at least nothing based on DNA evidence..

Does occur in E. North America according to Kuo. This species is often abundant in birch/hemlock woods. This is probably the same: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/269961?obs=112741&q=nuJw
Bessette, Roody and Trudell have a Tricholoma book coming out early next year. Hopefully it will help with the confusing brown (and gray!) species.
