Observation 114833: Galerina marginata group
When: 2012-10-29
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Im sick of finding these on every log. I only photographed this one because of the interesting squamulose pileus and blackening stem.

you shouldn’t be so harsh on yourself. I don’t think it a terrible observation at all. As a matter of fact, there is a quality chasm that separates it from observations like obs 191450 wherein people engage in proposing names and casting high confidence votes on collections that are not supported by a single image.

This is a good example

Of a terrible observation. I took this picture, and created the observation, in order to record what I considered to be abnormal morphology for an exceedingly common species. In retrospect, a photograph of abnormalities lacks significance without the context of the normal morphology presented by the surrounding specimens. Even more deleterious, this observation lacks a physical collection to support what limited data is present. I am happy to report that my collections habits have improved dramatically since 2012, thanks to the efforts of many friends and colleagues, including members of this community.
