Observation 115080: Armillaria (Fr.) Staude

When: 2012-10-31

Collection location: SE 66th and Division, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Usually Armillaria and Armillariella are clumping mushrooms. Elsewhere on the lawn, they were older and already degrading. This one was a cute small little one, though. Until looking at the stipe and gills, wasn’t sure it was an Armillaria.

Armillaria near cedar.
Gills, stipe details, and faint annulus still present.
Base of stipe. Slightly enlarging where attached to soil.
Very wet, which may explain the nearly viscid cap.
