Collection location: Ventura Park, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Polypore surprisingly (to me) tall, but narrow. About 8 inches from top to bottom, blackish on the top, white pores on the bottom.
I’m usually good about tree identification. I don’t know this one.

Recognized by sight: While I’m sure of the fungus, I’m not sure of the tree host. Found growing on something similar to Black Locust, or maybe acacia. Probably a Legumaceae. Looks similar to what some hispanics collect the seed pods to eat. Still don’t know the name of the tree, though.
