Recognized by sight: Pileus medium-fleshed, 5-8 cm across, obtuse-conical to plane, without umbo, reddish-brown, yellowish brown, darker in centre, light brown when in dry conditions, surface viscid. Stem cylindrical, 13-14 (up to 25) cm long, 1-1,5 cm thick, with violaceous (intensive to pale) slimy girdles, brownish-fibrillose underneath.
Used references: Synopsis to the pdf-version of the Funga Nordica key to Cortinarius.
Based on microscopic features: Spores citriform, densely verrucose, 16,2(15-17,6)x8,6(7,7-9,7), Q1,88 (2 collections, 25 spores).
