Observation 115542: Leccinum griseonigrum A.H. Sm., Thiers & Watling

Notes: Associated with birch.


Nut-brown to nearly black cap coloration. Some irridescent blue near center of cap too.
White tiny shallow pores.
Stipe longitudinally striate, with reddish scabers along the tops of the striations. Stipe flesh white.
Stipe cuticle peeling easily. Flesh of cap white. Tubes about 3mm long.
Immature cap nut brown.
I damaged the stipe on this little fella: well attachd to the ground.
Cap of the smaller button very slippery, and eventually broke away from the stipe.

Recognized by sight: Scabers on stipe, short pores on hymenium = Leccinum. I have several more photos, but this is the only one saved on this floppy disk.
