R. maculata matches very well

The description in Mushrooms of Northeastern North America mentions the hollow stipe and the vaguely noticeable odor. I think what threw me off is that in the west I’d only seen it on rare occasions and typically singly. These were larger than I’d seen and there were about a dozen in the area.
