Observation 115655: Stereum hirsutum (Willd.) Pers.

When: 2012-11-03

Collection location: Ventura Park, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

I’m not certain whether this is a Stereum-like fungus or a lichen. Found growing on a dead, detached limb of Quercus palustris.

Species Lists

Thin fleshed, orange to mottled yellow, edged with white-tipped spikes.
Underside of fungus at center of photo. No rhizimes seen, so believe this is a fungus, anyway.
Limb was about 4 feet long and 4 inches thick. Looks well colonized.
